FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #86 - 5 POINTS EDITION

Fan Feature Friday 5 Points Edition – say that 5 times fast!

5 Points are our upgrade to the articulated action figures of yesteryear. They’re posable, highly detailed, packed with accessories, and full of nostalgia. They may be small, but they’re still mighty!

Don’t just take our word for it, see for yourself! Scroll on to check out the work of Peter, Kenneth, and Juan!

Name: Peter
Location: New York, US
Inspiration: As a big toku fan I just had to get the 5 points ultraman set! Anyone who’s a fan knows that Red King is one of the most beloved kaijus in the franchise and I couldn’t pass up the time to do some cool shots of them going at it!

Name: Kenneth
Location: Texas, US
Inspiration: I am an avid fan of the Classic Monsters and even more so of glow in the dark. For this shot featuring the Monster, I wanted to give him a ghostly appearance and went with a subdued color palette to help emphasize the glowing feature.

Name: Juan
Location: Florida, US
Inspiration: I’ve owned a couple of 5 Points figures over the years but never really did anything with them photography-wise. I knew that would change when I saw this set. I adore the PSCC and they look fantastic in this style. The diorama was a cherry on top!

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #87 – CAPTAIN NEMO EDITION

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #87 - CAPTAIN NEMO EDITION

Abandoning the landlubber’s world, we join Captain Nemo on his journey across the Seven Seas! With his loyal crew and trusty ship, the Nautilus, there’s nothing above or below the harsh seas that the Captain can’t handle.

Gather ‘round to the Captain’s Quarters see what “a pirate’s life” really means featuring the work of Tony, J.M, Charlie, Marc, and Sal!

Name: Tony
Location: California, US
Inspiration:  I have been in LOVE with the original Mezco Cabin Control diorama from 2001 and when I saw a new Captain Nemo figure being released I knew I wanted to fuse Mezco’s past with the present! You guys did a great job on this figure and he’s right at home in this play set.

Name: J.M
Location: New York, US
Inspiration: The eyes on the face sculpt had such a deep focus, that I wanted to do a shot that would show what happens after. When the adventures are done and he is all alone, what is he thinking about, what is he reflecting on….
I kept the lighting simple. A blue back light for moonlight coming through the window. A touch of red in the front to represent a fireplace and that was it. Did a long exposure to capture as much detail as possible. Setting the scene with his accessories and his cloak hung up behind him.

Name: Charlie
Location: New York, US
Inspiration: The inspiration for this photo came from my love for anchors and just about anything aquatic. This Mezco Captain Nemo I felt was a perfect fit with the grimy old anchor look. I can just smell the ocean now! 😉👊🏻⚓

Name: Marc
Location: Oregon, US
Inspiration: My inspiration is the journey of Nemo searching the sea for the answers.

Name: Sal
Location: California, US
Inspiration: love nautical books and a big fan of 20000 leagues under the sea

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #88 – CONAN THE BARBARIAN EDITION

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #88 - CONAN THE BARBARIAN EDITION

Born on the battlefield, Conan The Barbarian was destined for a life of adventure. Motivated by his own survival, power, and enrichment, Conan will do whatever it takes to rise to the top

Join us in Conan’s epic quest to become king, featuring the works of Josh, Elmer, Casey, Iqbal, and Jordan!

Name: Josh
Location: California, US
Inspiration: The moment I had this figure “In Hand” I knew I wanted to portray the shot with Conan launching a strong attack and wanted the focus all on Conan instead of adding in a adversary for him to fight.  I wanted people to see all the intricate details that were included in the figure.  The most difficult part of the shot for me was making sure I did Conan justice with a natural pose.

Name: Elmer
Location: New York, US
Inspiration: From the moment I pre-ordered the figure I knew I wanted to photograph him in different perilous situations, I referenced some old Conan comic book covers, built the set out of foam and 3d printed materials and brought the idea to life.

Name: Casey
Location: Missouri
Inspiration: What inspired me for this shot was the goal of featuring this amazing new Conan figure as he begins another of his journeys of high adventure. He’s also fully equipped with the weapons needed to face any foe or obstacle. Many more adventures and peril lie ahead of him as well!

Name: Iqbal
Location: Indonesia
Inspiration: The inspiration for this picture, I got from King Conan Book (collection of five fantasy short stories by Robert E. Howard). In this picture I want to portrait Conan who finally became a king in Aquailonia (the most powerful kingdom of age), after several battles.

Name: Jordan
Location: Indiana
Inspiration: Months before receiving this figure, I knew that I wanted to emulate the rich colors and iconic style of Frank Frazetta’s classic Conan covers without duplicating them exactly. I pre-built the base in anticipation of its arrival. When he arrived, I went to work on trying to create an atmospheric image that would honor Frazetta’s visionary art. Even if only to a small extent, I hope that was achieved.  To anyone who sees this shot, I hope you will feel drawn to the character and his lore. Just like I was as a teenager.

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #89 – VALENTINE’S DAY EDITION

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #89 - VALENTINE'S DAY EDITION

Roses are red, violets are blue, Harley’s gone mad and Joker has too! Swap out the roses and chocolate for mallets and laughing gas and you’ve got yourself a match made in unhinged Heaven! Sometimes, even the biggest heroes and the baddest villains need a little bit of love.

Get in the mushy, gushy mood and check out these power couple shots featuring the lovely work of Steve, Dylan and Zak!

Name: Steve
Location: Oregon, US
Inspiration: I chose to buy this version of Batman because of the clawed mask sculpt. Catwoman doing that damage is a story that I was excited to tell through photography. I chose the upward angle to make her look even smaller against Batman and show that she’s strong regardless of her size.

Name: Dylan
Location: Maryland, US
Inspiration:  I have all of the different Mezco effects on my desk at all times – they’re one of my favorite things that Mezco makes because of the detailed sculpts and versatility to be used in many scenarios. I put one of my lights behind the Doc Nocturnal Red Death smoke effect and set the light to green; I thought this combination would make for an amazing Joker gas effect in a picture. From there it was a matter of deciding which Mezco Batman figure I wanted to depict – and the damaged head sculpt of Sovereign Knight had just the right expression of desperation. Then when getting my Joker figure off the shelf I saw Harley Quinn. I had not done a picture of Joker and Harley together yet, so I figured the two of them could be laughing maniacally over their assumed victory over Batman. After a few dozen tweaks to lighting, positioning and posing – I got a scene I really enjoyed!

Name: Zak
Location: UK
Inspiration: The inspiration is from Batman and Catwoman’s relationship that they have and sharing a kiss such as they have in many of the iconic comics, plus it was valentines days and so it was apt for the time 😊. I will send this over in an email, along with the high resolution  photo to the email you have provided now and look forward to seeing the picture on Fan Feature Friday.

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #90 – NOSFERATU SYMPHONY OF HORROR EDITION

FAN FEATURE FRIDAY #90 - NOSFERATU SYMPHONY OF HORROR EDITION

It all started in black & white…

This week we’re featuring the vamp, the myth, the legend – Nosferatu! First seen in 1922, the silent vampire has definitely left his mark on the history of horror. Don’t stare into the dark for too long, you may not like what you see…

Check out these haunting photos of the creature of the night, featuring the works of Dom, Tobias, Sean, Dustin and Justin!

Name: Dom
Location: New York, US
Inspiration:  I had just gotten the Nosferatu figure and was taking all kinds of pictures, using all the different accessories. For this picture, I wanted to go for a feeling of the viewer encountering him outside. I was going for a feeling of him getting the viewer in a trance to lure them in. I added the Hell Hounds in to fill out the space a bit. I considered adding the rats too, but I didn’t want to make the photo too busy.

Name: Tobias
Location: Michigan, US
Inspiration: My  inspiration for the photo :  I was inspired to take this photo by the plethora of accessories that came with the figure. the creatures of the night are quintessential in vampire lore. The first thing I thought of was the scene when I opened the box.

Name: Sean
Location: California, US
Inspiration: My inspiration for the photo came from the figure itself and my love for horror. As soon as I got him out of the box and had those menacing red eyes staring at me, I knew that I wanted to do something dark and grainy with a touch of cinematic lighting. This figure truly is a Symphony of Horror and I cannot wait to see what your team comes up with next in the horror one12  line up!

Name: Dustin
Location: Utah, US
Inspiration: I took this in a cemetery behind my house! Just had to bring my own smaller headstones. The weather was cooperating nicely, so I got Victorian horror feel out of it.

Name: Justin
Location: Michigan, US
Inspiration: I was inspired by the iconic picture of Nosferatu where he’s on the ship with his fingers stretched out. I wanted to recreate that pose because that image is what instantly pops into my mind whenever I hear his name. He has a creepy yet very fascinating look that’s always stuck in my head.
And this figure really elevates the terrifying characteristics that I love so much about the character.
